Just in time for summer, the much-anticipated Elk Grove Aquatics Center is set to hold its grand opening celebration on May 25. The center will give the community several fun and affordable ways to cool down and is a welcomed addition to the community.
Not only will the $42 million center feature the largest pool in the region, but its three pools will be the first public pools to be opened in Elk Grove in more than a decade.
In addition to a public recreational swimming pool that will be used for open swimming, there will be a shallow fitness and instructional pool for swimming lessons and a 50-meter pool that can be used for tournaments and swim teams to train in. Two local swim teams, the Elk Grove Piranhas and the Elk Grove Gators, already have plans to use the pools for competing and training.
While the pools are the center’s focal point, there are a few ways to enjoy all the center has to offer. Visitors will be able to float down a lazy river and take a ride down dual 30-foot water slides. A café, called “Grover’s Grotto,” will fuel swimmers with snacks and refreshments available for purchase. The large venue has a maximum capacity of 1,500, making it an ideal spot to rent out for pool parties and events.
To celebrate the newest addition to the city, a free day of swim will be held Saturday, May 25. The grand opening festivities will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, an open swim beginning at 11 a.m., carnival games and raffles. Games and swimming on opening day are free but on a first come, first served basis. More information can be found on the official Facebook event.
After the grand opening event, the center’s regular pricing will be: free for children under two, $4 for children ages two to four and $7 for everyone over the age of four. Season passes, available to ages five and up, will be sold for $80.
The Elk Grove Aquatics Center is located at 9701 Big Horn Blvd.
