The Elk Grove community is celebrating the opening of The Center at District56.
The Center is Elk Grove’s newest and premier gathering venue for special events and experiences. It also features the city’s first Veterans Hall and a new senior center.
District56 is a collection of modern indoor and outdoor amenities, including The Center and a 56-plus acre nature area and oasis with playgrounds, a pond, jogging trails, fitness areas, overlook points, habitat restorations, wetlands and other green spaces.
District56’s “The Avenue” is a concourse between The Center and the Aquatics Center, a full complex with a 50-meter pool, lazy river and 30-foot water slides. The Avenue features dancing fountains, picnic areas lined with oaks and a bocce court. There’s also a nearby café with outdoor fire features.
City leaders envision The Avenue as a regional gathering place for festivals and other events that bring communities together.
Visitors can also enjoy various art installations along The Avenue component of District56.
The Senior Center is designed as a modern space for adults 50 years and older to come together for exercise, classes and other activities.
A celebration for The Center, which connects people with nature, arts, events and with other members of the community, was held on Jan. 23.
