Elk Grove will be the home to a new $21.3 million Amazon distribution center, opening later this year.

The city will join 20 others across the state to welcome the fulfillment warehouses, which enable the online retail giant to ship purchases to customers in sometimes a matter of hours.

Despite the challenges of the COVID-10 emergency, e-commerce business has flourished. The city of Elk Grove is poised to add many new jobs once construction of the new Amazon center is complete.

A Southern California developer purchased 17 acres of land in 2019 and hired Alan Construction to build the 111,000-square-foot facility. The same developer is responsible for another large distribution center in Elk Grove.

The Elk Grove Mayor has said the excitement for the new facility is through the roof as several other nearby cities, including Sacramento, Fresno, and Tracy, competed for the facility.

A key to the city’s success was an expedited review and permitting process. Amazon was approved by the city’s planning commission last November.

Landing the facility is a testament to Elk Grove’s commitment to industrial job creation.
